Top 5 Smartphones with Highest Radiation Levels: Xiaomi Leads the List

Xiaomi Mi A1--

Contrary to the previous list, both the 4G and 5G versions of Mi A1 actually have the lowest radiation levels that can be absorbed by the body compared to other smartphones, with a SAR value of 0.76 W/kg.

The smartphone with the highest radiation to the body is Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G, with a SAR value of 1.56 W/kg. This is followed by Mi Mix 3 and Samsung Galaxy A23 5G with body SAR values of 1.42 W/kg and 1.25 W/kg, respectively.

The SAR values for both ear and body of each phone can be seen in the following table:
Smartphone SAR Value (ear) SAR Value (body)

  1. Xiaomi Mi A1 1.75 W/kg 0.76 W/kg
  2. Xiaomi Mi A1 LTE Dual SIM 1.75 W/kg 0.76 W/kg
  3. Xiaomi Mi Max 3 1.58 W/kg 1.56 W/kg
  4. Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G 1.56 W/kg 1.42 W/kg
  5. Samsung Galaxy A23 5G 1.49 W/kg 1.25 W/kg

It should be noted that this list does not represent the radiation values of all smartphone models from Xiaomi and Samsung. Stocklytics also mentions that some phones from these brands have low radiation levels.

For example, Samsung Galaxy Note 10, Galaxy A55, Galaxy A35, Xiaomi Redmi 5A, and Redmi Note 7 Pro have low SAR values. However, the SAR details are not specified.

On the other hand, smartphones from other brands like Apple and Google are considered to have relatively low radiation levels. For instance, iPhone 7, Pixel 3a, and Pixel 4a have SAR values ranging from 1.36 W/kg to 1.39 W/kg.
Radiation level standards

The standards that establish safe SAR values vary. For example, in the United States, the safe SAR value set by the Federal Communications Commission is 1.6 W/kg.

Meanwhile, according to guidelines from the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP), the safe SAR value for mobile devices is a maximum of 2 W/kg.

Referring to the ICNIRP standard, the radiation levels of the aforementioned five smartphones are still within reasonable limits.

On the other hand, the issue of smartphone radiation's impact on human health is still debated.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) acknowledges that phones can emit radiation from electromagnetic field waves (Radiofrequency Electromagnetic Fields/RF-EMF).

However, the CDC has not been able to prove that RF-EMF wave radiation can affect human health.

"At this time, we do not have scientific evidence to prove that the use of phones can affect human health," said the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on its official website.

Nevertheless, it doesn't hurt to minimize exposure to smartphone radiation by following the following tips, as reported by Gizchina on Wednesday (5/15/2024). These tips can be applied by users of any smartphone model. Here are the tips:

  1. Use a speaker or wired earphones to make calls, so there is no need to directly attach the phone to the ear.
  2. Reduce the duration of calls to minimize radiation exposure.
  3. Users can also use text messages instead of calls to reduce radiation exposure.
  4. Activate airplane mode when the signal is weak. Because smartphones tend to emit higher radiation to connect to distant BTS towers.
