OJ Simpson--

The pivotal moment came on June 12, 1994, when his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman were found murdered outside her Brentwood condo.

Simpson, who had previously pleaded no contest to a domestic violence charge involving Nicole, was a prime suspect, and charges were filed against him. Instead of surrendering, he attempted to flee in his white Ford Bronco, leading to a widely televised slow-speed chase on June 17 that captivated an audience of approximately 95 million people.

The subsequent trial became a media spectacle, culminating in Simpson's acquittal for the murders. However, in 1997, Goldman's family pursued a civil suit against Simpson, resulting in him being found liable for wrongful death and battery against Goldman and battery against Nicole. He was ordered to pay $33.5 million in damages.

Subsequently, he served nearly nine years in prison for robbery, kidnapping, and related charges stemming from a Las Vegas sports memorabilia incident, ultimately released in 2017 for good behavior.

The infamous trial has been the subject of various Hollywood films and docuseries, including "The O.J. Simpson Story" (1995), "American Tragedy" (2000), "OJ: Trial of the Century" (2014), the Oscar-winning "O.J.: Made in America" (2016), and FX's "The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story" (2016) starring Cuba Gooding Jr. Sacha Baron Cohen also famously attempted to elicit a confession from Simpson during a segment of his 2018 Showtime series "Who Is America?"
