The two first connected in 2017 via social media, with Bromfield making the initial move. Although their first date was a bit awkward, they remained friends. "Whenever I get into a relationship, I'm very serious," Lyles mentioned on the Fast Lane Lifestyle podcast.
Their friendship lasted for years, and in 2022, Lyles decided to explore a romantic relationship with Bromfield. Since then, they have been inseparable, living together in Florida and training side by side for the Olympics.
Their relationship is built on mutual understanding and support. Lyles has been open about his struggles with mental health, sharing his experience with antidepressants in 2020 and how it affected his training. "Just because I'm struggling doesn't mean that I'm going to quit," he told People magazine.
Inspired by Lyles' openness, Bromfield sought therapy for her own issues. "I started therapy about two years ago because my boyfriend is big on therapy and felt I needed it," Bromfield said in an interview with The Inside Lane.
Bromfield also expressed gratitude for Lyles' family, especially his mother, Keisha Caine, who helped her adjust to life in Florida. Initially staying with Lyles' family, Bromfield appreciated the daily support from his mother, who drove her to training. "That's a support that I'm extremely grateful for," she remarked.
On the track, they maintain a professional attitude, keeping their romantic life separate from their athletic endeavors. "Even before we started dating, we had a very good balance," Lyles noted.
"She won't even let me call her 'baby' at practice," he added humorously. Outside of training, they enjoy dancing together, a shared activity that brings them joy and relaxation.
Their relationship has grown stronger over time, with Lyles emphasizing the importance of communication and patience. "It has taught me a lot of patience, and I believe this is my best relationship ever," he said on the Inside Track podcast. Bromfield's appreciation for Lyles' honesty has been a cornerstone of their relationship.
"When we became friends, I told him that I liked him because of his brutal honesty," she said. Lyles, feeling understood and accepted, responded, "Hearing stuff like that, I was like, 'Oh my gosh, I need this woman in my life.'"
Their strong bond undoubtedly fuels their performances on the track. Bromfield recently won gold in the 4x400 medley relay and is gearing up for the women's 400m.
