Kristen Faulkner, Former Venture Capitalist, Wins Olympic Gold in Cycling
Kristen Faulkner--
Kristen Faulkner stunned the world at the Paris 2024 Olympics by winning the gold medal in the women's road race cycling event. Her background as a former venture capitalist has attracted significant attention.
During the final stretch of the 158 km race on Sunday (August 4), Faulkner managed to pull ahead of two top competitors.
These were Belgium's Lotte Kopecky, the 2024 World Road Race champion, and Dutch cycling legend Marianne Vos.
Before dedicating herself to becoming an athlete and reaching the Olympic level, Faulkner worked at several venture capital firms in New York and San Francisco.

As a venture capitalist, she invested in high-risk, early-stage tech companies.
She left the finance world in 2020 and has since won several cycling races.
In a post-race interview, Faulkner mentioned that her background in venture capital helped her understand risk and reward.
"I learned a lot about taking calculated risks. In racing, I bring that mindset," Faulkner told Reuters.
Faulkner was able to compete in the road race after replacing Taylor Knibb, another U.S. athlete who chose to focus on the time trial and triathlon events.
Next, Faulkner will concentrate on competing in the track events, which will take place next week.
